Brian Selznick: The Invention of Hugo Cabret
This is an absolutely gorgeous, stunning, book. The illustrations are some of the best I have ever seen in any book, and the author marries the story with the images in a very creative and unusual way. This was a TED book club selection. (*****)
Shaun Tomson: Surfer's Code: 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life
My daughter picked this book up at school. She thought it was an interesting title. As someone who spends quite a bit of time in Hawaii, I thought it was interesting. Not too deep (no pun intended). (**)
David S. Kidder: The Intellectual Devotional: Revive Your Mind, Complete Your Education, and Roam Confidently with the Cultured Class
Great reading for the intellectual soul. (*****)
John G. Miller: QBQ! The Question Behind the Question: Practicing Personal Accountability in Work and in Life
My daughter suggested this one. It is required reading in one of her Senior level business classes. It should be required reading for every new employee! Great book! Simple concept. (*****)
Seth Godin: Meatball Sundae: Is Your Marketing out of Sync?
Seth Godin at his best. A must read for any marketer. (*****)
Nassim Nicholas Taleb: The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable
Ben Mezrich: Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions
Great story about a talented group of students who take on Vegas and win. (*****)
Murray Gell-Mann: The Quark and the Jaguar: Adventures in the Simple and the Complex
Not much of a science geek, but he spoke at TED, and I found him very interesting, so I am going to try to work my way through this. It seems very interesting.
David Rockwell: Spectacle
Fascinating book on "big" events and occurances. From the Olympics to the Running of the Bulls. If it is large and involves people, this book covers it. (****)
